The Department of General Surgery at the University of Arizona and Banner University Medical Group are actively seeking a Pediatric Surgery Nurse Practioner to provide afull range of servicesat its Tucson and South campus locations. The Division of General Surgery, Department of Surgery, is a dynamic environment offering comprehensive and multi-disciplinary surgical and medical care for our patients. Our Surgeons provide the best in patient care, resident and medical student education and training, and extensive community and academic endeavors. This NP role will work with a comprehensive team to provide the best patient care.
The Pediatric Surgical Nurse Practitioner has in-depth knowledge and clinic expertise in the care of pediatric surgical patients, particularly children with surgically managed birth defects or long term chronic health problems. The Nurse Practitioner will complement and assist faculty in the care of patients of the Pediatric General Surgery Service. The Nurse Practitioner will act as a full member of the Pediatric General Surgery Team, taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care to both inpatients and outpatients which include the following:
The Nurse Practitioner in collaboration with the Attending assesses, plans, implements, evaluates an appropriate plan of care including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, in accordance with APN practice guidelines and in conjunction with the collaborating physician for patients within their specialty practice
Provides family-centered care to meet other family needs such as psycho-social support, education, and discharge planning in conjunction with the discharge planner, RN's, Care Coordinators and other related disciplines.
Collaborates with nurses, physicians, dieticians, therapists, and social worker to implement surgical care of the pediatric patient
Act as a liaison between the Pediatric General Surgery team and all clinical staff caring for the patient
Investigates, recommends and educates team members about new approaches in the nursing care of pediatric surgery patients
Provides clinical education to both families and staff
Initiates and participates in education, research with evidence base practice, professional, and organizational activities that contribute to improving patient care, the scientific knowledge base of nursing, program operation, or their own professional development. Also mentors others in the areas of clinical competence and professional development.
Participates in patient care rounds including Fetal Treatment and Tumor board as needed
Attends weekly division meetings, monthly staff meetings and hospital committees as directed
Participates in AHP committee meetings as invited or AHP standing meetings as scheduled
Collaborates with and provides clinical coverage for division colleagues
Provides outpatient care for own panel of patients to include patients with gastrostomy tubes, wound care needs, and ostomy care.
Minimum 3 years recent NP experience in pediatrics is ideal.
Active American Heart Association CPR certification
Active Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Active NP Furnishing license
Active and transferable DEA license to Arizona as required by your clinical specialty
Current national certification in a pediatric specialty by first day of work
Completed a NP recognized graduate Master's degree program as a Nurse Practitioner
Able to be or already paneled with Medicare and Medicaid with CMS and in turn eligible for CCS paneling as appropriate for Pediatric environments
Reappointment process occurs every two years following initial approval of hospital privilege
Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of pediatric surgical patients
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
