The Licensed Massage Therapist is responsible for:
Treating children/young adults with medically serious and complex medical conditions and a frail constitution. These clients will likely fall into one of three categories: chronic or terminal illness, suffering from severe injury or medically complex or technology-dependent.
Easing both physical and emotional tension and stress.
Evaluating how the definition of medically fragile may vary across clients.
Assessing clients' soft tissue condition, joint quality and function, muscle strength, and range of motion
Conferring with clients and medical team about their medical histories and any problems with stress and/or pain in order to determine whether massage would be helpful.
Developing and proposing client treatment plans that specify which types of massage are to be used.
Massaging and knead the muscles and soft tissues of the human body in order to provide courses of treatment for medical conditions and injuries or wellness maintenance.
Understanding the contraindications defined by the guidelines and Boston Childrens Hospital policy
Consulting with other health care professionals such as MD, NP or nurse regarding massage treatment plan
Maintaining treatment records in Electronic Medical records.
To qualify, you must have:
A license by the Board of Registration of Massage Therapy 269 CMR 2.00:MGL c13, and must abide by the duties and responsibilities set by the board.
One of the following additional credentials/licensures: Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist with pediatric experience.
The analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems requiring the application of clinical, scientific or technical principles, theories and concepts and in depth, cross-functional experience based knowledge.
Strong communication skills in order to effectively deal with the conflicting views or illness and mediate fair solutions or well-developed writing skills.
